Idera SQL Mobile Manager: Reviews/Competitors

Hi,

We're going to be trialing this software in the next few days. I have been looking for reviews and have been unable to find much of anything independent. I would appreciate any input from users. I saw someone using it at PASS last year and they seemed happy with it.

Also, is there anything competitive to this product? I can't find any other SQL Server Management/Administration Tool that can be run from a PDA.

Thanks!

Michelle
Never used it. I have evaluated CompactDBA. http://www.compactsql.com/aboutus.html Would have purchased it at a client I was recently at because the on-call DBAs get driven up a wall with all of the alerts and are pretty much confined to their homes to get a VPN connection for the entire week they are on call. But, one of the managers in the organization (not responsible for our database platform) had a complete hatred of anything mobile for monitoring or management, so it was dead before it ever got started. But, I liked the features and capabilities that it brought.|||

I've heard some of our customers are using PocketDBA: http://www.xb.com/products/pocketdba/. I have not personally used it.

We have been using this software on Windows Mobile 5 devices for about a year now. Started when it was still owned by CompactDBA.

The product has been great. No more sitting in front of a computer all weekend when we are on call.

The product does everything it says it will and you can add custom scripts as needed. Great for starting jobs and checking quick server issues.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

|||Thanks to everyone for the feedback. I evaluated this software. I thought that it made good use of the real estate. But, it lacked some functionality that we required due to the way our IT department is organized. It also seemed kind of expensive but, we didn't actually try to negotiate any bulk discounts or anything. We are using the citrix client for Windows mobile.
