Before Reinstall:-
1. For safe take the backup of databases
2. Detach the databases (SP_detach_db)
3. Copy the MDF and LDF to a safe location

Did a SQL database backup to D:\<database_1>

Ran the RESTORE database option in SQL pointing it to the existing databases

Check if the MDF and LDF file exists for that database,if exits then you try
using sp_attach_db (see books onlinr) to attach the database back to sql

If I log out will SQL Server still run?

Runnning 2005. I want to log out (not reboot) of Windows Server 2003, log

doing this cause the SQL Server to stop running (taking requests from

IE7 and RS2005 navigation issues

When I run a report under Firefox, it works fine.
If the report contains a drill through, and I drill through and then try to
back up, the report will spin and never refresh unless I manually click
refresh.
Steps to repro:
1. Create two reports, one with a drill through and the second the target
of a drill through.
2. Publish the reports.
3. Using either URL access or the report manager GUI, browse to the parent
report in IE7. Not sure if it matters, but this is on Vista.
4. From the parent report, drill through to the child report.
5. Using any of the various ways to navigate backwards, backup to the
parent report. The report will spin and never resolve.
Is this a configuration issue on my end or is this an IE7 issue? I've tried
various browser options and I get this behavior no matter what. It works
fine in Firefox and Opera.
Thanks,
JustinHello Justin,
I would like to know whether you have add your server into the trust area
and enabled the javascript.
I tested on my Vista machine and I could drillthrough and backwards
correctly.
Please let me know if you still could not navigate the report.
Thanks!

Thank you for fielding this.
I've tried various IE7 security settings, including setting it to low and
protection mode to off.
I did a bit more research and here's what I see.
1. When you drill through to the subreport, it loads fine.
2. When you hit back and check the URL of the iframe for the
reportview.axd, the parameter information is gone.
It still has the report the target in the query string, but parameters have
been lost.
Note - I am running without default parameters.
Perhaps you could try and use a drill through that requires parameters and
let me know if you can reproduce it.
Thanks,
Justin

I would like to know where did you view the report? Direct in IE to view
the reports on Report Server? Or are you using the Sharepoint Web Part to

Also, what did you use to drillthough the report. Jump to Report or Jump to
URL?
I tested the child report with paremeter which still could drillthrough
correctly.

I am having the exact same issue with any drilldown reports. When I
try to go back to the parent report, it just spins and never
resolves. If I hit the refresh button, then it resolves. Has anyone
figured out what this issue is?
Thanks,
Scott|||I also have the same problem. I have a three layer report in which the drill
downs are just fine but the IE7 Back button leaves me spinning forever. The
project runs fine in the designer. At this stage of development, I am running
locally so there should not be any network problem.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

IE 7 RC 1 does not respond to Back history command while viewing a report

I have noticed a minor problem in IE 7 RC 1, while viewing a Microsoft
Reporting Services report the Back history command does not work.
Thanks,
Lonyes - I saw this too - I just now load RC 1 now thinking my older version
just had the problem.
Really bites - you think many would have noticed this on their end already.

Identity ranges different for different pubs

Silly question that came to mind as I was driving back from a poker game:
What would happen if one publication sets an identity range at say, 100,000
and another publication (in the same database) has the identity range set
for 50,000 on the same table?
Earl,
when you create the second publication, the identity range for the table is
inherited from the first one.
If you're having these sort to thoughts, does it mean you won or lost ?
Rgds,
Paul Ibison, SQL MVP
|||Hehe. I won... now if I can just cobble together enough wins to get back to
the WSOP this year ...
On a more serious note, I'm in the final stages of rolling out an app and
when the mind is freewheeling, I tend to speculate on what might go wrong
long-term. It seems like some issues of replication could lead to walking
into a dead-end if it were not anticipated early on.
Thanks Paul.

Identity Increment

If delete all the records from a table that has an incremental identity. Is there a TSQL way of reset the first number on an insert back to be 1 again without going to the table taking it off then saving it the putting it back on again?TRUNCATE table clears all data and resets the Identity counter.|||Perfect! Thank you.

Identity Column Rollover

If I have an Identity column defined as a smallint
seed=1, increment=1
Does it automatically roll back to 1 when the number of records reaches
32,767. Assuming of course, the last record assigned identity 1 has been
removed.
I assume it does, but hey, I've assumed stuff like this before and gotten
burned.
JohnNo it does not automatically roll over. Instead you will receive an
overflow error and future inserts will fail. You could then reseed the
value using the DBCC CHECKIDENT command. A much better plan however, is
to create the column large enough that it won't overflow for the
forseeable future.
David Portas
SQL Server MVP
--|||No, you assume wrong. You'll get an error when you try to insert a new row.
"Arithmetic overflow error for data type smallint, value = 32768"
Change to Int if you believe that it may be a problem.

error when trying to store the new value.
Example:
use northwind
go
create table t (
colA smallint not null identity
)
go
set identity_insert t on
go
insert into t (colA) values(32767)
go
set identity_insert t off
go
select * from t
go
insert into t default values
go
select * from t
go
drop table t
go

Identity Column Null? WHAT?

Hey all
Wanted to check the identity of my column so I ran this:
dbcc checkident (tablename)
It came back saying it was null!!!
"Checking identity information: current identity value 'NULL', current
column value 'NULL'."
What gives? When I enter a value in the column...it starts with 0. I want it
to start with 1!!! Any suggestions? I already tried reseeding it and it still
says null grrrr.
Thanks
